would it be possible to get a bottle of CO2 i/2 size and a disposable bottle of argon and pipe them togeather some how to use as a co2/argon mix ,,
As said in other threads that co2 is ok for steel but realy needs argon mix in to to be better?? so whats your opinion on this,,,,,

Can be done with two regulators and two ball-type flowmeters with check valves. It is done on the low pressure side (<50PSI).

You would want about 20% CO2, so set argon to 8LPM and CO2 to 2LPM. Will be a pain to set up.

Or you can get a gas mixer with 2 regs. You had better be sitting down when you read the price. . I have one I picked up cheap off ebay. Works well but has slow leaks (lots of fittings inside box.)

If you are welding thin material you will only need a mix of 5% CO2 in Argon, do the maths and work out how many disposable Ar cylinders you will get through per CO2 cylider and I am sure it would have been cheaper and much more reliable just getting a cylinder of mixed gas in the first place

95/5 produced tall welds here on 1mm steel:

95/5 is sin the center. 75/25 had a near symmetrical profile.

Most gasses over there advertised as 5% are trimix.

Don't wish to appear negative, However......

Consistent & cost effective results will only be obtained if you use a single cylinder containing the correct blend.

The optimum blends have been proven and also contain a small percentage of oxygen which means three cylinders.

If you still wanted to blend your own, the regs would need to be multistage which are twice the price as standard single stage. By the time you have wasted loads of cash on equipment and gas/time experimenting it's not really worth it IMO.
