Mk7 transit

Our mk7 transit has started stalling and is a sod to start

fuel filter?

if not anything else if may obviously be, one of the lads turned up at 5 to home time and I didn’t even open the bonnet.

one thing I did notice is it revs up sooooo slowly

Could be an air leak in the fuel system...

Is the fuel draining back to the tank?

I'm guessing 2.2 engine.

You really need to check live data, but stalling and slow to rev, I'd be looking for an EGR valve stuck open.

Other common issue was fuel metering valve, but that would show up as hunting/diesel knock with stalling if bad enough, but I've never seen it prevent revving. Drawing air at the fuel filter would also give similar symptoms. If you do swap the filter, it's a recirculating filter head, so disconnect and block return port from the engine when bleeding, otherwise you'll be there forever trying to bleed it. I usually disconnect both engine side pipes, block the back port, prime up using primer on front port, reconnect the front pipe, then start it and let it run for 10-30seconds to get as much air out as possible, before stopping and reconnecting the rear pipe.

I have seen the occasional MAF fault, usually wiring related, but that was more a RWD problem with the main engine loom where it loops down from the body to the engine (usual wiring to fail first was EGR, but have seen MAF and a couple other random failures) due to the wires chaffing through on the conduit.

Other thing to check is for any big holes in the inlet system, like the intercooler smashed.

Iv got the reg number as no one knows which engine it’s running

it’s a mk7 rwd. It’s had a replacement engine and the boss said it wasn’t as fast as the old one

any way to tell which model is fitted?

Seized or damaged turbo...Not sure of the turbo type you have but it could of jammed the variables on the turbo with soot

If it's RWD, I would expect it to be a 2.4

I think it’s a 2.4 as it’s rwd

Typically there’s a piece under the wing mirror but both have been rebadged by its previous owner

can’t be as it boosts up and drives fine

I will video it tomorrow,

it revs just slower than I remember a transit revving

I never drive it but the lad that does has said it keeps cutting out when slowing down and is a sod to start

Timing? Tdci famous for wrecked tensioners cracking carrier
From memory they are 3 power levels in this engine, or is it 4......

I know the mk6 is prone to cracked carriers

I will scan it tomorrow and see what it comes up with if anything

never bought a Transit after the old 2,5 non turbo........Sprinters mainly.......
Why oh why can't Ford make a world beater ??????? take a little time to iron the bugs out......
Almost every country in the western world uses Sprinter based vehicles for Ambulances.....and a few others but NO Fords.....!!!!!!!!

my forever vehicle is a wax oiled VW T4.......stuff the new rubbish.......oh by the way to buy a replacement VW is almost £48,000.......ha.....never....

Its a mornings work to fit a 2.4 transit timing chain kit, ignore the death rattle on start up at your own peril

Yeah, mine slipped 4 teeth on the inlet cam and then refused to start... Luckily it was the inlet cam so it just opened after tdc and closed late after bdc so nothing was smashed.

The engine in question is down here in Dorset on a pallet if you need one @stuvy - rebuilt 25k miles ago after the little end let go on number 1. £250 if you want it. Got a egr deleted and remapped ECU to go with it too.
