mobile compressor on van

hello all
im new to this forum and have spent a few hours searching threw the site.
(added as many pictures as i can to help aid my post)
i had a taskmaster compressor with a electric motor on it but i put it in a van. i wanted to use it mobile so i swaped the motor for a yanmar 1 cyclinder engine. so i just swaped them over.
but the yanmar engine spins the oppsite way from the electric motor, but it sitll builds up pressure. it seems to be too powerfull for the compressor pump. so do i buy a bigger pump or buy new pullies and belts and what shall i do about the engine spining the opsite way.

old electic motor power 2.2kw
engine 3.1kw power
150 litre tank

it wont matter that the motor is more powerfull as long as the speed from the motor shaft is the same .or u have changed the pulley to suit . some pumps must be run a certain way for cooling and the oil pickup inside to work .what unloader have u put on it for when its filled to pressure as u cant stop the motor as with the existing one

i think this pump need to be run the right way it has a pully with blades for coolin but its spining the wrong way. and i can get it to build up with out it getting very hot so i turn it off, i was going to get a blow off presure reliefe valve. any ideas better than the valve?

bummer, if the compressor pulley has a straight keyed shaft then just turn the pulley round so blades point other way.
should in theory reverse cooling flow.

I think you would also need a mechanical pressure unloader.
It vents the air from the pump once the tank has reached the set pressure.
This lets the engine tick over without too much load once the tank is full.


It is the red circled bit in this pic.
I had to get a new one for this compressor because a few bits were missing.
I got it from machine mart if i remember right. Around £70.

You will need a mechanical unloader or the compressor will just continue to run even when upto pressure. The mechanical unloader blows off at a pre-set pressure and then the compressor vents to atmosphere until the cut in pressure is reached.
To turn the pump in the opposite direction just put a twist in the belt, like a figure of 8, not a perfect solution and it will need a longer belt. The belt will tend to wear more quickly but just keep a spare handy.
Also, if you still have the original electric motor I would be interested ?!

i have sorted the engine spining the wrong way by changing the crank and taking the drive off the crank shaft instead of the cam shaft.

just need do purchase a load valve and a pully

where would i find the spec or the power of the compressor

turning the pully round the other way won't make any difference, they'll still be the same way round, reverse rotation is the only way to alter it.
