Hi,
has anyone gained any experience with these please?
I've found a web-site http://www.airconditioningforcars.co.uk/ that explains the basics of car air-con but now I need specifics if anyone knows.
As you may recall I rebuilt this car after a smash and the aircon radiator (condeser) was changed. The system was empty for maybe 5 - 6 months until I had it refilled last saturday.
It's not working and there are a couple of odd points about it...
the condenser (front radiator) fan doesn't run although it's free to turn by hand. Measuring the voltage on the plug I get 12.5 - 13 volts on each wire. With the engine off there's a 750 ohm earth on each wire, so I guess something like the engine management is switching voltage onto each wire.
But comparing it with my wifes Mondeo, there's 12.5 volts on one wire and 0.1 volts on the other. So that's why the fan on mine isn't running.
If it is controlled by the engine management then the reason it's not applying the correct voltages is possibly due to the compressor (pump) not switching on when it should. I can only get the compressor on with the air-vent switch turned to 'off' (the solid white blob on the control display).
With the air-con switched on I can feel that one pipe on the compressor gets hot and the other gets very cold so it seems to be doing what it should, but it's not cooling the passenger compartment (but then the air-vent it switched to the off position so I guess that's why!).
Finally, I can press the on/off switch a few times and the green LED goes on and off as expected until it finally stays on no matter how many times I press to turn it off. Sometimes it clears when the engine is turned off and sometimes I need to pull the relay in the engine fuse box (relay 3).
Any ideas please?
If someone has a circuit diagram then it'd be perfect! :-)
