im thinking of buying a machine that requires more air than my compressor gives, is it possible to run two compressors and join the hoses together with a t and run a hose into the machine or is there a problem doing this?
Fairly standard thing to do. Connect the tanks directly, i.e. before any regulators and set the switch pressures slightly apart so the pumps don't switch on at the same time and cause excessive surges in the electrical supply.

^^ if one was set to 120 and one to 100 the lower would switch on when the pressure dropped below 100. If the pressure didn't drop that far then the 1st compressor can handle the demand and there wouldn't be any need for a 2nd one.
