Hello,
My names Anthony from Hastings, UK.
Im doing my second year at Kcollege in tunbridge wells campus for my BTEC in Motorsport mechanics.

I've always had the urge, as far back as i can remember to break and create, so I originally went into art, playing around with Mudroc, and plaster of paris, making weird and wonderful objects however i realised in my second year at brighton university, theorising the objectivity of a burnt upside down umbrella wasnt really my thing.

so i jumped into mechanics and have loved spinning spanners since.

I have a SIP ARC thingy i hardly ever use, and i have a SIP Migmate 130 turbo i picked up for £30 from a boot fair (yes expect many a .. 'it broken' thread) its prehistoric, more rust than a renault at the bottom of the ocean and never really 'works' but its helped me along the way.

can someone direct me to whom i speak to about getting parts, i.e gas liners, wire liners for it? also is it normal for the sips to have the wire feed horizontal on top of the mig?

I seem to recall that Halfords (once upon a time) sold SIP welders: good as place as any to hunt for the spares locally, or online here

Yer, the old smaller Migmates had the wire on top. I have a Migmate 100 that I bought new in the late 80's, IIRC it was just over £100 and I brought it home on the Underground well there was no way I was going to strap it to the back of my GPz550

The liner you is fairly common, you should be able to get one at any welding shop or Machine Mart. The gas tube and touch parts were no longer held by the SIP distributors when I re commissioned my Migmate in 2012, I fitted a 3M Parweld touch assembly which cost about £60 including the gas pipe and liner. Welder now works as better than it did twenty five years ago, the original nylon liner is probably responsible for most of the wire feed problems.

Sounds a sensible move.
This is the place for advice on all things technical and many things beyond that.

I Cant help you with liners, accept that maybe they offer a tubular insight into the deeper inconsistencies of the human psyche.

If you have been into the Art thing and are into mechanicking have a look at the metal sculpturering thing, a great way of combining both.
And no art students or burned umbrellas in sight.
Even better build a tallbike.

Also had a small migmate as a first mig,100amp i think with 3 push button settings, low/med/high, must have bought about 1985ish?,
got it from Flairline in Cricklewood/north london anyone remember them?

after initially starting on arc and then moving onto mig it was like night to day improvement of what i could achieve, but boy did i get through a lot of those disposable mig gas bottles!

That it where I bought mine, I was living in Dollis Hill at the time. In the shop it did not feel that heavy, I was regretting the idea before I had even got on to the platform at Kilburn.
