This one is fixed, rather than folding. It was surprisingly bothersome to make, as the wood kept moving. I should have waited longer between each cut.

I've only just got a work facebook page....

(in truth i don't really understand the point of them - i know to sell more "stuff" but i don't understand the mechanics)

The trouble is, as a one man band, you could be making stuff to sell, or you could be taking photos, taking video, editing fb posts, updating instagram, etc. etc.

Which, I'm sure, is how things grow. But it all takes so long, and then you don't have time to actually make stuff.

Even taking the, lets face it, pretty damn amateur, photos that ive been posting up here takes me way too long. I dont even need to screw these things together otherwise, as theyre sent in parts. So i screw them up, mount the panels, clear a space in my kids room, find the light, take the photos, take it all apart again, try and adjust the lighting etc on the photos, crop out the background junk, compose the promo posts, answer the comments... It all just sucks up more and more time.

But the flip side is you can be making the most amazing stuff anywhere, and, if nooone knows about it, you wont sell any.


Export work is not easy at the moment at all, so im making the effort, and, yes, a yourtube chanel would be good, but, realistically, theres some skill in the stuff i post, but, compared to the new yorkshire chap that you mention - i mean he has proper skill, whilst i just make large things smaller.

Plus my "workshop" is, well, not that presentable at the moment, and thats an understatement.

So, yes, good idea, and one that id like to run with, but im just not sure. I think, at present, im probably reaching most of my target audience for this stuff, and my time may be better spent on product development rather than burning more time on social media? But thats the thing about advertising, is its so hard (for small scale enterprises) to really know whats effective and what isnt.

If you check the price - its more than ive ever spent on a car... for a spring reverb unit! But, again, all i do is the silver bit. But, you can imagine, if someone is spending that sort of money, it has to be spot on / flawless in every respect, to the extent that i got metal samples from all the suppliers i could think of for them to even choose the exact grain that they wanted....

I prefer that kind of work though. Volume is dull, high end product for a reasonable price is way more suited to a one-man-band outfit.

Ill see if i cant get some photos of the wooden things loaded up and post them later.

No filter or amp so i assume it has other units designed to run with it.

Far right of the unit is a control voltage sequencer. By the looks of it.

As mentioned above, i honestly have zero idea what a facebook page is supposed to gain me, but i just looked and ive got my first "like" from someone that i dont know anyway!

(i wonder if the village shop will take that "like" in payment for a pint of milk... i suspect not!)

Anyway, i know the forum has all sorts of rules about spam and selling and the like, but as

a) im not trying to sell anything to forum members, nor
b) am i trying to spam up the place

..i figure it may be vaguely acceptable for me to post my link here, and then you can all "like it" and, well, "This time next year, Rodney...."

There you go Julian, I liked the page. I don't do Facebook either but apparently I signed up 3 years ago to join a Land Rover group! I had not realised or indeed remembered I had done it. Sadly now I will probably click every link in the for sale on Facebook that get posted on this forum

I pretty much hate facebook... my own personal facebook is empty, no friends, no contect, no posts etc.. have to have it to run the company facebook.... which I don't really like either but now someone else handles it 99% of the time

7k likes and probably a couple of hundred messages a week - we don't really use it to advertise etc.. just post information now and again, a new price list etc. etc. probably a post once every 2 months

but... it has brought in quite a bit of business, hard to tell exactly how much, but it got the company name out their a bit so we're easier to find, I think 3 of my 5 best customers found us on there


I get emails from google once a month, saying things like "E.Hall ltd was searched 79k times in September " but I don't trust any of them, no way we're being googled that much

you should have an Instagram page too, even if it's empty it'll stop anyone else making a fake one for you!

Yeah, here's one i did earlier -

The body of the nixie above was from this stuff, which cleaned up nicely with a bit (well, quite a lot) of effort -

Im (very) slowly doing this job for someone -

That's a rubbish photo, but its a large saw blade (about 33inches dia) that's to be a sign. The blade was normal when I got it, but its to be a rat-rod / hipster look, so a forced patina with phosphoric, and then 2k clear, then it will be screen printed with their stuff, then clear coated again.

Its an indoor sign rather than outdoor, which is good, as its kind of heavy, and whatever coating is put in it will be compromised where its put down on the sharp teeth.


So i do do other stuff as well, but its just easier to sell in the field you know, hence most of it is the same sort of audio bits.


For example, I've got roped into doing screen printing for kids at a friends craft fair next weekend. I hate printing textiles...

I'd like to make a Nixie clock, maybe one day. My next clock project is an English dial clock with a date feature (complication).
It is 12 inches in diameter, 18 swg mild steel. Off white with black numbers.
