Morning All from Stoke on Trent

Ey up, lads and lasses im new to welding and the forum! Iv started college in stoke on trent doing a level 2 in tig welding. Im an ex army medic who caught the welding bug after working attached to some army fabricators in iraq. Iv been out for 2 years and took the plunge to start learning the trade. I currently work in the heart attack centre in the local hospital but I am planning to start some work experience in january 2014! Iv joined the forum for some advice how to get into the trade, and tips and tricks from experienced welders! Looking forward to hearing from you all cheers!

Which college in Stoke are you at? In 1989 I did a 2 year vintage vehicle restoration course in Stoke, it was split between Burslem college and a college halfway between Hanley and Stoke, the name of which escapes me!

Im at burslum, I really enjoy it just done a cv to try an get some work experience, loads of companies in stoke my motto is "if you throw enough ****, some'll stick!" Lets hope we get somewhere!

cauldon campus is the other campus! And I was 4 years old when you did that course! What kinds of cars were you working on? I love cars from the 80s!

I did welding at Leek in 1981. Fast forward to late 90's and then I did hobby engineering first at Leek and then Burslem. I preferred Burslem college. The welding tutor was good bloke - let me use the welders and guillotine / folders even though they were another dept ! Cutting capacity was something like 25mm and whole building shook when cutting that thickness.

If you want welding jobs consider JCB suppliers. JCB themselves now tend to have "foreigners" according to a neighbour who is one of the last "time served" / qualified welders at the Uttoxeter plant. His main job is correcting the mistakes that the others make !
