Motorsport desk lamp..

Hey folks.. been a bit quiet for a while, parenting/work/life but have been keeping an eye on the forum...

My dad knows a few people involved with high end motorsport and the other day I got handed a bare AP caliper with the words..

"What can ya do with this?"

Obviously my first reaction was... can I sell it?

After realising he was quite fond of it, I figured I should help him out..

I ordered a few bits of the intranet and set too...

Came up with this....

I like it but with out offending should have a carbon fobre vented disc as a base , only my thoughts mind.

It's cool, no offence taken.. trouble is

most carbon discs are 300mm (ish) diameter minimum so that takes up a lot of desk space...

They're bloody expensive...

Being a 'ring' mounting the upright centrally is trickier, as is hiding all the wiring...

Most of the furniture in the room is oak (or oak coloured) so this was chosen to fit in and keep the caliper as the focal point. .

The caliper is a real piece of art and worthy of being displayed.

If it was mine, I would have a vented disc cut along a vertical axis with the cut internal faces painted. Then mount the caliper to the disc, perhaps with a soft red led to give the impression of heat.

How about a brake disc & caliper clock type project?

Unfortunately it's only the bare billet caliper... I dread to think what the seals/pistons/pad retaining clips/pads would cost never mind a disc too...

Bare caliper was the only option..

Still, I love a bit of petrol head art that the wife would never understand.
