Mounting options for a loft?

Hi all,

Just purchased a 200l abac compressor, I need to mount it on a loft as space is at a premium in ground level!

Should I just bolt through the floor, or would rubber pads be a good thing to dampen vibration?

i would try and use some anti vibration mounts.

Do I need to loosely bolt through the pads to stop it walking off the loft? Haven't put a plug on it yet so no clue how much it vibrates.

It does weight nigh on 120kg!

I have used car engine mounts you can get ones that are filled with oil/gas to even further damp vibration.
just a point some have electrical connections to tension them when needed, would you believe.
had a audi put the engine management light, on for engine mount fault!!

Will you still be able to access for draining?

Also, don't be tempted to switch on remotely from the wall socket, they have a starter for good reason. You've probably read all this when researching but just in case.

Yeah my A4 has the electro mounts. Just puts a code up not a light though.

Why not turn on from a socket/isolator? I've worked in 3 garages and several workshops where this was the case to no detriment of the compressor, as for draining I was going to run a line to a ball valve to outside/a sink drain.

good plan to use the room volume instead of the floor space, always a good way to gain "space" for more kit in small areas.

Just one thing to have a look at, make sure the roof joists are heavy enough to take the load, not just the weight. Remember that the compressor is a heavy weight for a small footprint, and more importantly it's also a dynamic load (it moves and vibrates) which isn't usually considered in joist design calcs. Doubt it would be problem, it may already be floored, but worth giving it a look at anyway, and maybe reinforcing them if necessary, such as putting additional board across them to spread the load over multiple joists or adding additional bracing to tie into a support wall or suchlike etc..

Its just a storage loft in the shed adjoining my workshop. It's 6*2 joists every 12" so should be fine, also Where the comp is going it's next the the wall the joists sit on and above a beam that holds the floor up.

6x2s must be a decent sized shed or an older one. They're making them as thin as anything now, everythings calculated to the last ounce, so they can reduce the size of the sections to save on timber, reduce cost / maximise profit etc. No or little margin for extra weight. That's why I asked.

Sorry should clarify its an agricultural shed, or building more correctly! We ran out of space, and the area below didn't need the height of the shed so I stuck a loft in! It stores all the rubbish dad seems to accumulate!
