Don't know why , but ever since i was a kid i have been interested in Roman Gladiators. I put it down to watching Spartacus when i was about 10 i think
Anyway after the recent heron i made for the garden i had a load of chisel offcuts left , and thought i would make this.
I think it is the type of helmet that everyone thinks of when you think of a Gladiator. This type is called a Murmillo helmet or " Fishmen". I think this comes from the fish type fin on the top , and the fish details that were common on the sides of the helmet etc.
Here's a link to a spectacular one in the British Museum. Obviously i am not going to get any where near the workmanship on that one , more of a caricature mine i think.
