mutant snail shell

After reading a maths book and re-remembering about the Fibonacci sequence and the golden ratio I got thinking about how I could copy the picture next to the text (it was a picture book really).

I didn't expect this to take quite so long - things fairly quickly spiralled out of control (groan )

Luckily I've got the remains of a 0.6mm roll of wire I don't use normally

Some finishing and tweaking still to do (hammer&oxy-propane) as well as sorting the finish. But I'm so pleased to have more or less finished the welding. Phew.

Never be perfect but it's close enough.

Kind of cathartic when you get into it. Lots of concentration required to keep it growing in the right direction though. New found respect for snails.


Hopefully it'll look better when I do attempt to polish it. Other jobs to do for a wee while though.

Just weld. It would've helped me keep on track if I'd made a skeleton but I really didn't expect it to get so big. Didn't bother investing in any thinking time. With hindsight, it'd probably have been sensible

Decided to do a fairly major tweak to make it look slightly less like a tightly coiled pile. Only just got away with it.
