I'm looking to learn how to weld. I've bought a Clarke 151en and using gassless wire.
The picture is my weld after practicing this morning. Any feedback would be great.
Hi Gary, welcome to the forum.
Not much to say about that weld really, not the best quality photo but from what you can see it's not great though it's certainly not shabby for a first attempt.
It looks like you had the plate vertical? Try running several beads with the plate on the flat with different power/wire speed settings to get an idea of how each adjustment affects the weld.
Have a good look at the tutorials on here too, they're aimed at using solid wire and gas but the basic principal is the same, torch angle, travel speed etc.
when i started i found using 3mm or thicker metal helped alot, and like said above, put the workpeice flat, and start on the lower settings and work your way up through them till you find a nice sounding and looking weld, then keep doing it
i also found using the 'pad' practicing method mentioned in the arc welding section helped me learn alot about laying beads, and its quite impressive when you finish it and cut through to check the welds
