My compressor setup.

Hi guys and girls, this is my setup i have recently done a abac 3hp and sip 2hp total 225 litre tanks and a non return valve. The little compressor kicks in and shortly after the big one follows to finish off. i know many of you have tried this and it works well but at the moment i think i may be able to get it better. The little one kicks in and fills its tank only so its on a very small time and the big one carrys on running. Would i be right in thinking that if i took the flexible pipe directly from the tank instead of the top reg it would help the abac fill its tank then the sip one cut out then the abac cut out (like malcoms setup)

The little one should put air into both tanks but air will stop flowing from the little tank when the big one reaches the regulator pressure. I would have connected the link before the regulator.

Where's the non-return valve?

Also it's a bad idea to reverse pressurise a regulator because some types will bleed air to atmosphere when the output pressure exceeds the set pressure.

The nrv is inline the silver flexible hose at the front.
At the moment the little one kicks in and out very fast so the big one still takes its time to fill. What can i do to change this to make it work well like malcoms? This stuff easily confuses me, are you saying connect it to the tank not the reg and how is it revers pressure ?

Yes, connect the link before the reg, or even remove the reg.

The non-return valve should prevent the reg being in reverse pressure, I wasn't 100% sure where it was in the photo.

What pressure does each compressor cut in and out at? What pressure is the reg set to?

The big one kicks in at 6bar and at the same time so does the small one i presume the small in kicks out at8 bar as the big one continues. I dont think the reg is true on the sip i think the guage is definatfly out so i use the reg/water trap at theend of the. Airline outlet which shows i have around 9/10 bar when full
If connected at the tanks will they thrn work together?

Almost - remove the reg and re-fit (or better still get one with 1/2 in BSP ports) so that the combined output from both compressors feeds into it.

It would be better still to connect it so that it is as near to the air tool as possible, this means the pipework is at higher pressure and resistance will be overcome more easily.

Yes, if the SIP feeds directly into the ABAC tank.

I can't see what you are gaining except another 50 litres of storage. Won't the big compressor pressurise the smaller tank if you connect it directly if they are set to different pressures on the cutout ? If the lower pressure is on the big tank then the small compressor will be running flat out to fill it after the big one cuts out.

Whilst both pumps are running you get the combined CFM.

By the looks of it the small one cuts out a 8 bar, the big one at 9/10 bar
