Have no idea if I'm in the correct forum
But would like to share my order with my consumables.

They sell Flap disc and cutting discs and more

I was gona order some from screwix and compared prices and was a no brainer for my self.

It all depends on how good they are, as in how long they last when compared to any others you've used before.
Some abrasives seem to last far longer than some others do.

Off topic now, but I once (in 1989 ish) bought an amplifier (Cyrus 2 & PSX) from a guy called Dave Bamber.
But he lived at a place called Lawrence Weston, in Bristol.
Probably not you, though!

A 25 pack of Dronco 115 1.0 discs is only £10 ex VAT, and that is a named brand, so it depends a lot on how long they last.

Dronco are pretty good, judging from the ones I've used before - and that's a good price for them, too.
Is that on e-bay, though?
I have a constant paranoia that they'll get invisibly fractured in transit, especially those very thin discs!

But then there's no guarantee that they've not been thrown all aound any of the places they've been through- wherever you get them from, I suppose!

I and my little band of mates are heavy users of flap discs,
Well, heavy for individual users, I get through 8-10 during the week for work and from 0 to 20 at a weekend every now and again.

If you sit down and look at what's out there the choice is mahosive. We bought packets of 10 of maybe 30 different types and tried them all out.
Everything from 50p china specials to £15.50 premium ones.

Everybody had a different opinion on which was best and worst. As we all do much the same job on the same materials we thought it was a bit odd so all got together and had a play around.
The power and weight of the grinder makes the biggest difference on various types of discs.
A cheap cordless grinder works best with a cheap disc although not much work gets done by it.

Stick a cheap disc on a 1000w plus and it will be dust in no time.
Put a sharp aggressive disc in a cheap grinder and it will just bog it down.
There are loads of variations inbetween.
Some discs in some grinders seemed to be running ok but not lasting long as the grinder was slower and the metal was getting too hot.
Put the same disc in a grinder with a couple of hundred more watts and it lasted twice as long and worked 1/3 faster to boot.

The guys mostly use decent cordless tools on mild steel and we found a middle of the road option that pretty much everybody was happy with. A few guys did upgrade their grinders once they had had a go on a half decent one.
We have now formed a little buying group as the ones that were about a fiver each are less than half that if you buy enough of them at once.

We made the decision based on us all using them for work so time spent changing discs, swapping & charging batteries etc all had a financial value to be accounted for.

None of the ones under £2.50 or so (rrp) were what I would call suitable for anything other than hobby use. I do have a few of the £1 specials but I would only take one of those out if I was going to have a go at a bit of plastic or rubber and chuck it away after the one use.
I also still buy the ridiculously priced 3m's and pferds etc. at 2 or 3 times the price of my regular ones.
They don't last 2 to 3 times longer by any means but sometimes they are the best way to match an existing surface finish if I am doing a job that requires it.
I rarely justify using the really expensive specialist stuff but when I do they are worth the money.
If I have to climb into the back of a knackermans flesh trailer and grind up some alloy I don't want to be stopping to breath during that job let alone change a disc or a battery so the price I quote him will let me spend £20 on a single disc for it!

I saw these on Facebook think I might just try the flap discs.

I’ve been using volker branded discs I get from my polishing supplier around £1 a disc but the recent batch I had don’t seem to be as good as previous they look slightly different too.

I also get bsp branded cutting discs from the same people around 33p a disc and are fantastic better than reca!

Well, if he ever comes up my way, and does a round of the village - I'll need about a day's notice!
And if he's doing Shepton, then he'll need a very big trailer - there's quite a few that need "tucking away" around there!

Flap discs are great but I’m a big fan of ceramic discs where you can use them, last longer cut harder, cost less.

I just thought I'd respond to one of guys recommending MYconsumables. Sorry I know this isn't the forum for doing this but I just thought I'd let you know a bit about myself.

I used to do a bit of welding myself so I know a bit about the stuff. Would appreciate any help in growing the brand. We've found that cheaper abrasives usually are a false economy, so we stick to supplying recognised brands. Our customers don't tend to be backward in coming forward if a product is under par, and quite rightly so. The vast majority of bonded abrasive we sell is Tyrolit product, it's one brand where I can't recall more than a handful of rejections despite the fact that we move multiple thousands of discs every month across various sizes of cutting and grinding. Tyrolit offer a simple system to select product from 1 star basic through to 3 star premium. Beyond that, they have Cerabond X in the ultra high-spec range (basically an alternative to 3M Cubitron II at a slightly more reasonable price), so there are options for all budgets.

With regards to flap discs or fibre discs, I can highly recommend trying some CIBO products, especially their FX (fibre disc) or FHCC (flap disc) ceramic ranges, although their al/ox and zirc discs are also excellent. If you have a local distributor then give them a shout, if not then I'd be happy to fire quotes out to anyone interested!
