There are a number of rods which go into the concrete and are basically glued in.

Can I ask is the concrete stained or colour added ? loving the contrast , well love it full stop actually .You have a great talent

It's painted with several thin coats of acrylic paint soaked in, and then gone over with black boot polish to give it a slight sheen.
