Looks good to me, seen a lot worse, with pipes, the bigger the pipe the easier it is, 6" shed 40 is pretty good for practise, chamfer the edge and if possible put the roots in with tig, leaving a 1.6mm root gap
Thanks mate i really want to tig weld but cant get gas any where so im learning stick i work as a comercial plumbers mate and have some 6 inch just need a bench to cut it on. Are there any techneuiqes for welding pipe?
Yeh good positioning is key, have a look on weldingtipsandtricks .com that guy is a welding guru lost of vids and info on pipe welding, I normaly walk the cup on tig putting the roots in
Cheers for that mate ive hurd of walking the cup but ive only had about 3-4 hours tigging i wa a mig man till.i saw the light and found the chalange with arc. Even tho i find it soo frustrating but once you get that bead down nice it feels great.
You need to steady your hand a bit. Make sure you are comfortable and try and hold your welding hand with your other hand. Keep your speed down as well and tighten up the arc as you have used a long arc on this weld. The trick I teach my apprentices is to remember to feed the rod, most people forget the rod is burning away especially if you have been doing mig. Once you get that sorted you are well on your way to laying better welds. The one on the left has been run far to quick and i also suspect with them all you have not been making sure you are comfortable and running to long an arc
