My new 3D welding table.

Hi all,
Just thought I would share my latest project with you all.
I wanted to upgrade my old welding table so after doing a bit of research I came up with the following.
Was only planning to have the hole plate on one side but due to the cutters stuffing up the placement of the holes (and supplying a replacement super fast) I trimmed the old part down and put it on the side.
First I did some plans on Google Sketch Up.
Then ordered the laser cut parts.
And ordered the rest of the steel pre cut to my order.
(my old welding bench included in the pics).
It weighs around 180kg.
Top is 12mm (as well as side parts)
Main rails are 65x65x6 with 50x50x5 sliding rails.
Bolts underneath to lock and level the rails.

My pallet at the laser cutters... Very exciting!

And unloaded with all the rest of the steel.

Here's some pics of the build.
Support rails under the top are laser cut 53x12mm (to match with the 65mm side rails).
I welded frame up on my mobile bench which is very flat and solid with solid core fire doors top and bottom.

Because the laser cut top (1200x900x12) wasn't flat (had a few mm crown across the 900 length)
I now tested if it would pull down OK on the frame.

It all checked out OK (phew) so I removed it, flipped the frame over to weld the legs and sides on.

Only once I had put the top on once flipped I noticed that the side holes had not been centered properly and thus didn't match up to the top! (was gutted).

Lucky it was only tacked in! So was easy to remove when I got a replacement the next day.

So I trimmed it down and put it on the end.

So the extendable end rails sit on top of the legs when housed. Partly for aesthetics and so all the end rails line up which means I have a flat surface on sided and ends.
It also hold the rail more solid when housed.

Each end pull out around 450mm which leaves 150mm still inserted for a decent overlap for strength. So overall at least 2100mm long fully extended.
Bolts to tighten up the extension rails were extended on the back side so they are easy to get to.

Have made a few tools easily removable by bolting them on.
Cost around $1200 NZ dollars to build.

So they don't crack if you drop them ? It's not about the tyres, look at the beautiful table

Haha, the kart tyres are definitely not wrapped in foam!

It's PVC... All the better to drift with!

Oh BTW it's a standard size shopping trolley sitting on the bonnet of a standard size 240Z
