my new sandblaster

I'm working on my classic Mercedes and I'm in the middle of de-rusting sub-frame and differential. I bought a ten gallon pressurised sandblaster from ebay. I set up a little sand blasting workshop and I really love the tool but the ball valve connecting the hose to the nozzle broke only after about 2 and a half maybe 3 hrs of blasting. Do those valves don't last? Does anybody had similar problem?

if your on about the ball valve fitted to the nozzle on end of blast hose cut it off and buy a tungsten carbide blast nozzle and fit it on hose with jubily clip and work pot from on off shut off tap

Did it wear out? Personally I'd ditch it, get a tungsten carbide nozzle from these people http://www.acegrit.co.uk/page9.html and hold it in place with a hose clip, as above.

It looks good and I bet you haven't got any problems with a ball valve. What about the deadman valve? I've seen couple of them on ebay specially from the USA.

Are you taliking about the type that fits at the nozzle end? Personally I don't bother, it makes it awkward to get the nozzle into confined spaces.

Looks a bit bulky, what are the nozzles made from and how much do they cost?

Something between £30 - 40 and the nozzles are ceramic.

dont bother with one . more trouble than what there worth just use the supply shut off tap

Ceramic nozzles don't last long.

Thanks for all the help I finished blasting with my blasting gun...I'll probably have to do some touch up jobs tomorrow...I'm gonna do what you suggested. It's a great forum.

lucass_j, what media are you using and where do you purchase it from around london?

I was using J-blast superfine and I got it on e-bay but I looked through this forum and some people use crushed glass sand blasting media. It's cheaper and I wanna give it a try I just need to find a supplier from London or area so I won't have to pay for postage. It will be either cheaper for me to pick it up myself.
