My strange new tiny "lathe"

A very rare beastie.
No real idea what it is used for or why I need it.
Really old and the quality is apparent. Apparently back in the 1930s these cost more than a house!
Might just use it as a centre piece in the living room

Does anyone know about screw correction lathes? I don't have a clue!

What a lovely thing. Of very limited practical value but as you say, would make a very nice display piece.

No doubt you’ve already read it, www.lathes.co.uk. have some very good background info on the lathe. I’m looking forward to a way wiser head than me, adding practical information about it.

if you dont use it as a lathe, it would make a very nice ornament, although you might need to re-enforce your mantle piece to display it on

they had a screw correcting lathe at dsg that would be checked against a master using taylor measuring equipment.

I mean if you had all the change wheels and parts it would actually be a useful machine. You can make your own go/no go thread gauges.
good for making taps too.

I looked at that on eBay and could not find a good reason to bid on it. No space for ornaments so I let it pass.

It's a lovely looking piece of kit though, I wonder whatt the method of correction is? I saw an article for one that had a wavy bar on the front which rotated the leadscrew nut slightly according to the measured error on it's own leadscrew.

EDIT: after reading the Lathes article this IS the machine with the wavy bar for pitch corrections. Cool.

Yes it's such a shame they are missing but I suspect it would have gone for 10x as much if it had been complete.
