They are about 8 inches long with a pad at each end I had assumed was precision ground. Under th rust turns out they had been milled.

I think these turned up along with the GP Potts milling adapter thing so might be part of some kit??

They look a bit like the things used when laying floor boards to keep them tight together before nailing.

Hmm, I know the sort of floor cramps you mean but I don't buy it. These "brackets" have a thick web running down the back which looks like it is designed to keep those two machined faces at exactly 90 degrees.

I am struggling to see how they could be useful as-is so am assuming they are incomplete or work in progress. I won't be giving it too much thought, they'd make a lovely pair of shelf brackets for the Bridgeport...

Wouldn't know about a web. Both your pictures show the same side of the parts...
