Need help finding a drill quill spring

Picked up a nice Denford Viceroy drill the other day - pretty cheap. Very good condition but missing the quill return spring.
Think it looked like this

This is what I have

Diameter is 2.7" or 68.9mm
Looks pretty generic to me - I can find loads of people selling springs on Ebay but no housings - I wonder if your typical Chinese drill will be the same size?

Funnily enough I have a similar issue with a Meddings Driltru. I have the spring but the holder is broken (it came like that) and I can't find a replacement. I'll probably end up making something the same as you....

It's the same as the mainspring in a mechanical clock, might be another search term to try. You'll still have to machine a housing for it but that's an easy lathe part.

There are loads of spings on ebay if you search for quill spring.

@fizzy you've a bridgeport haven't you? Take its spring off and have a see if it's the same. They're easily available

Are they?? Last time I searched I could not find one...perhaps I typed it wrong. Lol
I need one for my Bridgeport. Are they model specific?

Just searched for "bridgeport quill spring" and found one from China and the rest from the states. What am I doing wrong?
And the one I found from China turned out to be just the case mount. Lol

Seems like it. Ended up getting one from Ali express.
Then they wonder why we don't buy from the UK. Because they don't list them.

You've got a lathe, make one along with a tight push fit cover.

I found when dismantling mine, a couple of small cable ties diametrically opposed fed round the spring before prising it out of the slot in the shaft, prevented it reaching for the Moon.

What are the dimensions of it? I possibly have some spring covers for ballscrews that could likely be used.

@fizzy The good thing about turning one, is that you can make it to suit the dimension(s) of whatever suitable spring you can source.

Seems like the standard clocksprings don't retract on a bridgeport.
