Need some advice on purchasing first air compressor

In a few weeks time I will be changing the head gasket on my car so I was thinking of buying a 25 litre air compressor to blow out the dirt from cleaning the block and also the pipes and oil/water ways. I've been to my local tool place and they stock sealey but they are very expensive so how do i choose which brand to buy when there is so many to choose from.

depends on your budget and air requirements, direct drive are the cheapest but belt drive are the best .if you intend to use powertools a 14cfm comp would be best but if not something smaller will do for intermittent use

I only want to pay £150 maximum as I guess it will only be used for blowing off the vacuum cleaner filter once I done the head gasket. I did want a compressor that I could use a impact gun and wolf air compressor has a bundle that comes with a impact wrench.

if you intend to use airtools a 14cfm comp is the way to go

The wolf compressor that comes with the impact gun is only 9.5cfm. Could anyone recommend a certain brand compressor as I was thinking of buying a wolf compressors but after reading the reviews for the customer service this has put me off.

You get what you pay for especially in this situation, if all you want to do is use it as a blower then you'll be fine, if you want to use serious air tools you will be disappointed. I was also under the impression that wolf went bust ages ago, so i'd check first before buying.

Hi apple. I bought one of the £99 Aldi compressors last year. It claims 7cfm. It is fine for tyre inflating and using to blow air to clean stuff, and I am expecting it to be ok to use with a small smart repair paint gun. However, it is nowhere near powerful enough to run most tools. It came with a sand blasting pot and bag of media - lasts about 2 seconds before it needs to refill. Haven't tried anything else as I reckoned I would be disappointed. They are good value for what they are, but once you get one you want more power.


If this is the kind of thing you are looking for, the Aldi ones are fine, Screwfix, Costco, and B and Q do a similar size Micheline one for £100/120 too.

In retrospect, I wish I had bought a bigger compressor or bought used.

Shame aldi are not doing the deal at the moment. We don't have a costco near me so I've looked at there website and they have a sip compressor that looks ok but do I need to a membership and do they deliver. B and q only does jcb and they are out of stock and they don't no when they will be back in stock. Screwfix only sell Stanley compressors and the reviews I have found said they are very noisy.

All the budget compressors are direct drive = very noisy.
