New boy here with a Marcos

Hi,


After many many years of wanting a Marcos Mantula i ffinally found one in need of restoration (and the right price) and is quite a special one being a ex works lightweight racer (and not a "Q" plate either).
Just bought a Clarke MIG 151TE and have watched a welding DVD to brush up my skills, i haven't used a welder for over 10 years. Found this website interesting and with lots of useful info, thank you very much.

Looks wonderful. I used to pass a yellow Marcos 3L on my way to school in Dundee - those things are wonderful. Will be keeping track of the progress once I've got broadband again. Any help you need with welding do ask on the forum.

Oh dear.

Has been said that the wooden ones were stiffer than the steel ones. Wonder if it's true?

It would be nice to see one with a better engine than the old Rover lump, though. Audi V8? Lexus?

you've obviously been around for a while as well. The first Marcos was an ugly car though, but guessing that with Frank Costin's input it would be quite slippery?

What's with the foreign engines though?, and far too modern for the car.

used to see them being tested being local to the westbury factory,, nice cars nice sound ,i also like the rover v8 good enough for tvr ,but if u do change the block i'll have it and shoe-horn it in my marlin kit car

Just thinking that the chassis is up to much more power than the Rover will ever put out in affordable tune.

If the car was almost unique or had some history, I'd keep with stock, but as Rover engines are expensive to rebuild and not very powerful, well, why not? I'm sure Gem Marsh would approve

And let's not forget that the "Rover" V8 is a Buick................

Hi,

Thanks for the replies, there is one guy in the owners club who has put a LS1 5.7 in his Marcos Mantula, for a car that weighs just under 900kg's that sure will move. I did contenplate this but too many chassis mods to worry about.
I will probably uprate mine to a 4.6 from RPI Engineering but need to sort the chassis (metal) and body first,
