New Career from military

Hey guys. My names Jay. Im currently enlisted in the USMC. I will be getting out in a year, possibly less if I want and Im wanting to start a career in welding. I plan on going to school after Im out. Im looking at going to Tulsa Welding in Jacksonville, FL and going through they're Professional Welder Program. I was just wondering if the more experienced guys that have been in the career for a while could tell me if this would be a good way to get my foot in the door and if this would be a program to go through. As this is a predominantly uk forum im not sure if there is much advice you would get in terms of gaining employment etc, perhaps some of the members in the USA may be able to help?

There always seems to be a lot of oilfield work in the US, may be worth ringing round a few company to see if they need a trainee.
