im thinking of upgrading from my direct drive compressor.

providing ur not gonna run a tyre shop it'll do fine for home/hobby use....with the odd small spray job and tyre inflation......remember after the first 5-10hours of running from new change the oil.......
I use 10w 40 synthetic Diesel oil in all mine with no probs.......I buy this oil in bulk and can't be assed to buy what is recommended......my biggest comp uses a 8hp 3phase motor, V twin Atlas copco, direct drive.....wouldn't use this oil if I was worried....this comp would prob cost about £5,000 to replace it.........all my oils are rep[laced 1'nce per year unless I'm very busy, then if the leval get on the low side I change the oil then....oil is cheap and compressor are not.....
besides they don't hold a lot..........

I've got an 10 / 15 year old abac that was well used and abused for spray concrete lining chimneys when I bought it and its still going strong, my only regret is the seller had two and I didn't buy the other one as well as he was pretty much giving it away.

Whats wrong with your direct drive compressor.

Why do you need to change the oil on a new compressor so soon? Just bought a new one myself and it says to change the oil after 10 hours but doesn't say why.

There will be a bedding in period where the the oil may be contaminated as all the metal surfaces "get used to each other"

Whats wrong with your direct drive compressor.

no reason
i do sand blasting on rare occasions and my direct drive one gets very hot as its operating most of the time.
it seems to keep up ok but i don't want to cook it.
i thought if i bought a new one with similar spec i.e. 14cfm 3hp motor and larger capacity it would work out better in the long run and i can sell my old one.
alternatively i did think of getting hold of some accumulator tanks and expand the capacity of my current setup

Ive got 2 abac compressors that ive linked together and have been pleased with their performance and no problems except 1 needed a new switch.

I’ve got the 150litre version of the compressor mentioned.
It’s brilliant however I did initially burn out a capacitor due to running it continuously whilst using an air sander.
It kept up fine but then the capacitor got very hot and started smoking.
I bought mine 2nd hand and having only having had light use but do wonder if the damage had already been done as it’s been fine ever since.
I’ve sanded and prepped my entire car with it and painted the car too.
The compressor will run and keep up with my air sander I just allow it to rest for 5-10 mins after running for 10mins or so.
To be honest this doesn’t happen very often as always something else to do,move or clean up etc.
It’s also very quiet for what it is.....
If you can afford the extra go for the 150litre though.
