I had a Scottish guy based near Edinburgh asking me to make hime a life size archer. A proper Longbow type not some namby pamby carbon fibre thing.
He sent me all the photo's and information.
Got it finished three days ago, put ammonium chloride to get it started rusting. The sun came out the next day.
He is mounted on a box made to look like a steel slab.
he is made of 8mm mild steel bar fillet welded together with his hands and pixie boots 'overwelded' to give a soft looking surface.

The arrow is stainless steel, and the bow is made of a length of 30x5mm strip rolled into a curve thenon the inside I have layed 13 and 10mm bar to give it some depth then overwelded them to get a unified surface.
making the bowstring drove me bonkers. I tried several types of wire and crimps knots etc. Then in 'The Box' the one with all the quality stuff in it I found few inches of old copper brake pipe, perfect for crimping it together.
I had some body yesterday, gently touching the 'string' saying how violent it would be if the string snapped under the tension. Excellent. Just the effect I was after.
The customer is now talking about another piece to go with him.
