Hi Guys, just signed up. Looking to gain some hints/tips on welding my 205gti up using an old (but free) monomig 101.
Already purchased: .8mm wire and tips/ metal feed :needs a decent overhaul as been sat 20yrs!!!

Car is originally 1.6 now 2 litre 16v from gti6 309.

That will be rapid!! I lived in Longlands Ave as a kid and later on my parents ran the Strawberry, served my time as a welder in the yard before joining the Navy, where I have been for the last 20 years!!

Works out approx 200 bhp per tonne.
Funnily enough I'm going up to the berry on Sunday .
Both my Dad and uncle worked in Vickers ( surname was Schofield )
Do you ever get back to visit? ( pretty grim nowadays)

Get back occasionally as the in laws are over on Walney, your car will be rapid and they were really bonny cars, I am currently working on a couple of Porsche 944's. I went to school with a guy called Dave Schofield, he did a lot of time in the the TA, probably unrelated though.

My uncle is called dave but I don't think it's the same guy.(60ish now).
I lived on west shore ( Irwell road) until pretty recently.
Always fancied the idea of 944 but the wife would kill me if I added another car to the collection!

Welcome to the forum, first suggestion is get some 0.6 wire and tips, makes it a little easier on car body work.

Don't forget to switch your wire feed roller to suit the 0.6, most mig rollers have 2 grooves, 0.6 and 0.8
