Hi, just thought I would drop in. Never come across a UK based forum before, thought it would be nice to see what others are up to.
I'm more of a stick welding sort of guy, I mostly work with thicker steel though.
One of my project from a while back was this vise, its got 10" jaws, and opens to 18". The small vise in the jaws is a standard workshop vise.

Hi Mith, wlcome to the forum. I'm sure the guys and girls on here won't hold against you the fact you prefer stick welding.

I love the vice - excellent job there. I have an ancient 6 inch one bought at an autojumble very cheaply because everyone else had realised it would have to be lugged half a mile back to the car park.

Hoping to develop the stick area on the forum a little as there are a number of experienced stick welders here. Welcome anyway, and do join in and talk about stick.

Malcolm, I too wondered around car boots looking for a decent vise. Didn't find much more than chinese 6" vises.
I would have been happy with an old 6" like you got.
