New Girl Here

Just to say hi. I have had this forum in my bookmarks for ages and have decided to join up.
I learned to weld from my dad, who started by teaching me lead burning when I was a kid of about 13. After copious amounts of lead stuck to my face, arms, hands etc I got quite good at it! I moved on to MIG after but havn't done any welding now for years. I own a VW camper and share 3 other Morris classics with my boyfriend and now have the need to get back into it as Dad is getting on a bit, and though you can get him on the deck under a car, it is a bit hard to get him back up again!
I have use of gas, arc and MIG and have just bought a plasma cutter too. Any advice on getting started with this would be useful and I am sure I can find answers here to help!

Welcome to the forum Lenny , there's lots of useful car related stuff on here as I'm sure you're already aware.
Regarding the plasma, there's not really much to them, just set the air pressure, attach the work return clamp and cut away. The only thing to note is that they use an awful lot of air so if you're using a small compressor it will mean you having to stop and let it fill. Any more questions, just fire away.

welcome...

as stated above there's not much to plasma cutting. Start at an 'edge' or drill a hole if you need to start in the middle, and if you get sparks above the sheet then you're moving too fast and not cutting right through.

Oh, and gas welding goggles around shade 4 - 5 are more than enough.
