hello Kyle what you planing to weld on?
Without meaning this to sound rude or 'flamey', if you're asking that sort of question then it sounds like you have little or no welding experience.
Quality counts and will get you repeat business, if you just blob things together with no thought about distortion, penetration etc. then it won't stand you in good stead for future recommendations from customers.
At the very minimum you'll need a 180A welder which will be just about man enough for gates and railings but one that can also go low enough for car bodywork so no more than 30A. Ideally you'd have two, one big (220A+) machine for the railings and a small, portable one (150A ish) for the car stuff. Headshield and other PPE, a couple of decent angle grinders, plenty of hand tools, a decent pillar drill, mag drill or punch (unless you buy your bar pre-punched), a method of twisting bar would be good, ring rollers, the list goes on and on.....
Also, don't forget you'll need insurance, especially for work on cars. One stray spark and it could be game over.
Welcome to the forum
What sort of welding have you done in the past?
Gear that i regularly use when i am out-
Genny welder, grinders, 5" & 9", heavy sds drill, rotary drill, various handtools as a bare minimum.
Other usefull stuff, depending on what work you plan on getting....Steel wedges, clamps, ratchet straps, oxypropane...a good selection or box, tube, bars, nuts and bolts, resin anchors, thrubolts, mastics....
The list can be almost endless. You can almost guarantee there will be something you want, but dont have. The key to site/mobile work is being able to 'get around' any problems you encounter.
As has already been said, a lot will depends on your market.
