Hi all,im a maintenance engineer (electronic engineer by trade).I work on all sorts of industrial equipment, machine tools, lifting gear etc and perform all sorts of work from electronic fault finding to component level to light machining on lathes and mills and reguarly use mig and arc welding in maintenance work.occasionally i use oxy-acet cutting gear and silver soldering using a propane torch.
I am old school although only 43yrs young and served my time with hawker sidley and then british aerospace in chiswick london.I was lucky to get in there as my father was a design engineer there. We covered all engineering disiplines over 4yrs and i ended up with an HNC in electronics and an ONC in mechanical engineering.
I remember getting a chip from a brideport mill in my eye and a fitter on the next machine got it out by rolling my eyelid around a matchstick!...in those days everyone smoked at work and the drawing office in particular stunk of pipe smoke!...lol
My first exposure of welding was to join two pieces of mild steel together about 1" thick and 12" long using an oxy torch...my "tutor" said "it aint pretty lad,but it'll do the job!
I Look forward to helping out where i can and hopefully receiving advice from all you decent welders out there.
Kind regards.
