Long story short I'm a pipe fitter by trade and can weld but I have no book knowledge on it if you get what I mean...

Looking at doing a few tig projects soon like a turbo header for my mk1 golf.

Welcome, and good luck with your projects. This is the best place to start.

In terms of manifolds I know SFA but this thread on WeldingWeb.com is a great read. It's a TIG beginner who ended up with a really nice finished product. He encounters all the usual problems, sorts them, invents a cool jig for bevelling the tubes - it's an interesting read. Sorry Mods for recommending a thread on another welding forum, but I'm a slut when it comes to the interwebs...
