Hello all, I have just joined this forum after looking through it for the last couple of weeks and have found many interesting and helpful topics.
I am a 62 year old carpenter from Australia (yes, still working, but recovering from a total hip replacement at the moment) and have always enjoyed metal work, but never been able to weld thin materials successfully.
I have had a stick welder (130 amp BOC inverter) for a few years now, but I really only have any luck welding steel 1/4" and thicker and even then my welds do not look very good. Last week my wife bought me a Unimig 180 mig welder for my birthday. I certainly wouldn't say I can weld good yet, but I was surprised when I found I was able to lay some half decent beads down for 2 days while I was practising. This week I built myself a welding cart and I am extremely happy with the outcome. I have just taken some photos of it and hopefully will be able to send these in as soon as I figure out how to.
Mick.
