new member here.. I fear I'm asking the same old question?

Hi there.

I'm new to the site! Wish I wasn't congrates to you all who've built an awsome site full of info.

Hope I don't get chased out of this place with a hot metal bar? I'm a woodman by trade (joiner) but dabble (and actually enjoy) metal work.

I'm currently in the mist of renovating a 1977 Fiat X19 sports car.

After constructing a very nice & strong wooden blast cabinet.. yes guys it can be done in wood. Very nice cabinet aswell - I'm facing my first major hurdle.

My compressor is out of puff and barely touch's the rust on some test parts. I'm using:
2HP comp
7cfm
50 litre tank
Machine Mart siphon gun with pick up tube
I shortend all my airlines and pick-up tube to aid with pressure

You know where this is going don't you??
As I'm sure you guys already know! nowt comes out... welll nowt much and at very low speed?

I'm not looking to blast the Golden gate bridge! simply to clean up a set of alloy wheels, an alloy engine head some of the other parts on my X19 and approach my renovation in a more professional manner than in my youth.

Is it possible to link two DIY comps together using a "Y" union and harness a combined higher output? (it might sound crazy) but its a question that needs an answer.

If the correct answe ris. Go buy a proper comp? then which one?
£450 budget??

Any help would be greatly appreciated chaps

Welcome to the forum, there's a bit here about linking compressors:

Make sure both units are rated for the same max pressure, otherwise you may have to fit non-return valves or just operate at the lower of the two max. pressures.

Bit about syphon guns in the shotblasting part of that section too. It would probably cut down a lot on compressor requirements if you go for a pressurised pot type rather than a syphon type. I blast (slowly) with my 3hp compressor quite happily.

I've never been able to understand why some forums can be funny about new members. No worries here - there's a great bunch of people on here without exception. Post a bit about your projects if you have the time. The X19 and the wooden blasting cabinet sound fun.

I've got a Machine Mart syphon blasting gun on the shelf somewhere. Same troubles as yourself - it didn't work. rtbcomp (above) got everyone using the pressurised pots with success. They were cheap eBay, then they were Machine Mart, now I think they are both if you search eBay for "10 gallon" or "20 gallon".

The 10/20 gallon pressurised sand blasting units on ebay are very good value for money and may well mean you don't need a new compressor.

Please remember to post some pics. I have very fond memories of my X19. I had the Mk II, 1500. I loved it, but it was disappearing in front of my eyes. I am staggered that you have enough of one to restore. Great handling. Terrible electrics, especially the headlight motors. But warm day, roof off, Ahhhhh...

Well thankfully mines in ok condition. I say ok! Its good for a mk1 1300 1977 car. It was actually registered in South Africa and brought to the UK in 1987 I wsnt looking for x19 when I bought it?? I really wanted a lotus elise ) but cash or the lack of it forced me to part with 350 quid on my x19.

Given the very small light body! Its easy to work on and Lucky old me has a large double garage to indulge myself in.

I will post some pics and some of my blast cabinet and also the gantry i built for a 2 ton block & tackle. as it happens my gantry in my best work yet! Possibly because its VERY thick box section and was a pleasure to stick weld.
