New member with a problem

Hello all, I am a model engineer form Brixham in South Devon. I also operate under disabilities which means some modifications to working methods. However I have recently bought a AC/DC welder branded Giant 200P ac/dc HF with a picture of the panel below.

The first time I used it the power switch was in the off position but lit and gave power to the welder. So it definitely has a defective switch from new. I will be speaking to the supplier tomorrow (Bank holiday today) to discuss.

Having studied several videos and articles on TIG (I have used a MIG for several years and about 40 years ago I used to gas weld ok. However, I can only get a very fine blue tiny spark between the tungsten and the work. I have tried both ac and dc but they both give off just this very faint spark. What I would like to know before I return it is since it already has a faulty switch am I doing something else thats wrong?

I have tried different angles of grinding on new stones and evry combination of switch positions all to now avail. I would have thought that I would have gotten something out of it even if it didn't last long.....or am I wrong?

Any advice you can give would be much appreciated.

Did you buy it from Local Tool Sales by any chance?

The tiny blue spark is the HF, it sounds like it's not actually arcing so there's more than one fault with it.
Speak to the seller before you go any further.

Faulty Tig

Just as an update I contacted Local Tools this morning and a chap called Chris immediately replied and apologised for the fault and will replace the Tig without question.

Whilst I may not be there yet I am pleased with the speedy reply and no hassle replacement. I will let you know how I get on.

Hello , not wanting to be a smart arris but you did have the amps turned up a bit didn't you ? Trying to get an arc going with low amps is difficult and could have been one of your problems.

Bought a tig set from lts and it was faulty then had to more units to replace the original and both sets were damaged/faulty took nearly 12 months to finally get a refund. i hope you have more luck than i did.
