New member, with an antique Hydrovane!

Hello,

I'm Chris, I am new to this forum, so hello to everybody. I've been reading through and there is some very good information available and some very knowledgeable members!

I have just bought a large Hydrovane 120, would say it was made around 1960. Was sold as working, but have not seen it running.

Have bought it to run a large vapour blaster. However I need some advice on how to service this machine before running it, how to get it running, and what setup will be needed, with safety valves etc.

Any help would be appreciated!

I was talking to a guy the other day, who said The London Underground still use this type of Hydrovane, for the doors on the trains as the newer ones can't take the heat and constant use, apparently the newer units only hold a litre of oil at the most, where as the older types have 5x that. So parts are readily available for them.

There is a member on here that knows far more than I, so hopefully he'll be along shortly.

I've got a PU45 and that has a 7.5hp motor gods knows what that beast of yours has on it

Thanks for that. I'm hoping this one is going to be a strong one. It was running 3 furniture workshops. Its a 18KW motor, 25hp, which will be pricey to keep running. From what I can tell by looking at the machine & this forum a service will be an air filter, oil change, and do they have a air filter?

Assumed it was an air cooler, as it has an input & output, was told the air produced was very hot. Would it be fitted between the tank or after?

Before the tank. It's a condenser

its an aftercooler there either air cooled or water cooled . refrigerated air condensers can be fitted after the cooler
