Hello everyone

I am looking to buy a secondhand mig welder for welding car bodywork. Im taking up an old hobby of mine which I last did some 10yrs back until my equipment, including my Mig was stolen. I would perfer a set which I could use with pub bottles. Can you advise on what sort of price I am likely to pick a Mig up for and whether in your opinions there are any particular makes to avoid. Oh and please advise to what amps would suit me best.

For a MIG for car bodywork you'll want something with a current setting as low as 30 amps... Or as close to this as possible...

The top end doesn't really matter but there are some good quality ones targetted at the bodywork market that have a top end around 130 amps so if you need to do anything into thicker metal you can

Clarkes are a good brand at the lower end of the price bracket and "Weldequip" can help with those... If your wanting to spend more then you can work towards the PortaMIG range... Again Weldequip can help with those too...

I wouldn't really go for second hand unless you know the person selling it and its history can be validated...
Just a note of caution before jumping in at the "deep end"

Thanks for your reply and I have taken your comments on board. I have come across a Sealey Siegen 130 Amp Gas Mig Welder for the sum of £137.00 delivered. Can you advise on what you think please.

Try dropping Weldequip a pm and see if he can cut you a better deal

I'd steer clear of the Siegen ones Wayne, they've very cheap but that's because they're built down to a price, better to spend a bit more and get something better quality.
