As a new member I have enjoyed looking round the forum and picked up lots of tips and information, only wish I had found this forum years ago. have been welding off and on for a lot of years, and have for some time now been using a mig. My machine however is giving me some trouble at the moment so I may come back soon and ask for some advice.

Hi Capricorn. Welcome to the forum, let us know what sort of welder you have and if possible pic of any problems (easier to diagnose though not essential) If anyone here can help they will.

Faulty ERP

Thanks for the reply and the friendly welcome (Zardoz) and for the offer of help, my welder is an ERP turbo 150 thats about 12 years old. I returned it to the manufacturer a local company for repair as it was continualy blowing the supply fuse. They have told me that the main transformer is faulty and have quoted £100 to replace, but say they can supply a transformer for £60 to fit myself. In fairness they suggest that the machine is not worth repairing in view of its age. I am tempted to scrap this welder off and invest in a better machine, but first I wondered if I might obtain a suitable replacement part cheaper elsewhere. I dont know much about transformers or if they are dedicated to specific machines. Would appreciate any advice on this.
