New motor for my compressor - HP?

Just been made a present of the single phase motor in the foto below. The donor said it had a rating of 3HP but the makers (?) rating plate has been removed. The motor is approx 14" from end of the shaft to the fan cover & 6" diameter excluding cooling fins. Can anybody confirm the rating, if it is 3 HP it will be a good replacement for my 1.5 HP Brooks motor which struggles at times. It will need bedplate changes which obviously I don't want to undertake if it's no more powerful than my existing set up.

Without the rating plate I don't think anyone will be able to help. You could measure its current draw when its running, but you'll need to run it under load to get a useful measurement.

Pass. I've taken the terminal chamber cover off in hope of finding some info there but only found details of how to reverse the motors direction. As originally stated the data plate is gone & so the only solid info I've got is the motor used to drive a reasonably large compressor.
I have a 3/4 HP motor of similar design on my lathe & the new motor is about twice as big but it's only half the size of my much older 1.5 HP Brooks motor fitted to my compressor
On the plus side, on closer inspection the mounting foot on the new motor looks very similar to the Brooks motor. Hopefully if they are similar or dare I hope the same, changing motors might not be as difficult as first thought
