New pillar drill and bandsaw

I'm looking at purchasing a new pillar drill and bandsaw I have a budget of approx £350 for the drill and £550 for the bandsaw what do you guys recommend and what brands should I stick to and which to avoid thanks

As far as the drill is concerned I'd go for a secondhand "proper" make such as Fobco, Elliot Progress, Meddings, Startrite and so on; avoid hobby machines such as Clarke.

Second the idea of a used Brit drill. Vertical bandsaws with low speed for metalwork are much harder to find used though, and a good one might eat up nearly all of your budget. Cheap horizontal band saws arent too bad though and will do a reasonable job after careful adjustment, as long as you not in a hurry..............

Any info on Johnson brand band saws? Are they good? Made in the USA, look pretty sturdy

Up here, there's a dearth of good, used machines which fit on a bench top.

Yes, if you can get them - distance makes it a non-viable purchase for the likes of me.
