New printer - bambu p1s - first thoughts

Just arrived this morning, bought on a whim as "NOS" from a local auction.
Paid £300, all in.
Box still sealed.

Initial impressions:

Holeeee Sh.... ugar.

This is beyond "several steps up" from my anet A8 - like in orbit around another star steps up.

It's *way* faster.
It comes "ready to print".
It printed flawlessly first try.

Overall, at the risk of being hung, drawn, and quartered by my fellow Yorkshiremen:

I'd have been happy to have paid the full £600 retail price for it.

If it starts to float, it means I've over-estimated the wading depth.

I had very similar first impression with my Bambu printer. My 11 year old grandson seems to be very interested in 3d printing, so I've given him my Ender 3, but when I showed him how to set it up I realized just how much more tricky it is to run one of these older machines - leveling the bed, loading filament, using SD cards to transfer files etc, and I'm wondering if I've given him something that is just going to be a big disappointment, especially as he is more interested in printing tat like Superman masks and dragons etc.

I've got over 900 hours on my P1S bought in March this year. It runs most days. I enjoy designing and printing stuff along with downloading and printing stuff for family.
I will get whatever Bambu release in the new year with a bigger bed size.

First "tool" printed.

Internal radius gauge to make it easier to model the bits I want to make.

Ran out of the green PLA so I've had to print the blades with transparent "brown" PETG.

Hopefully my other filament will arrive before too long.

I had to replace one of the switches on my dash with a toggle switch.
So I thought I'd print a guard to stop it being accidentally knocked.

If you give a kid a Bambu they get nothing from it, aside from instance gratification, bragging rights amongst their mates and stress free printing...

I have a little chuckle when people say oh yes their kid or so and so does 3D printing. You then find they wouldn't know a micrometer or Vernier if they saw one, have zero CAD skills, can't 3D model and just print game related figures off of Thingiverse etc.

Printed this out yesterday.
It's a replacement (outer) handle for the tailgate.

The latch rots out, and the handle falls off.
Replacement latches are available for "not a lot" but they come without the handle.
Second hand handles are like rocking horse teeth - mainly because at 20+yrs old they're starting to get brittle, or they've already fallen off the few scrappers.

Anyway, I put the picture on one of the FB LC groups, and I've had orders for eight of them!!!

At a _very_ nice profit, as well.

I keep seeing posts about Bambu printers and I'm impressed especially considering the price. I've been out of 3d printing since 2018 until recently. Back then cheap printers worked but were nowhere near as good as the Bambu printers seem to be.

About a year or two ago, I considered buying a second 3d printer to upgrade from my Geeetech but then I've since ended up with two more printers for free. If I didn't have three 3d printers, I think I'd now be buying a Bambu printer.

As aforementioned, other players in the market are playing catch-up. Similar, fully enclosed, CoreXY printers with AMS are around for half the price.

The Anycubic Cobra S1 Combo for instance I've just found out about does 320⁰C vs the X1C's 300⁰C though I've not looked in depth at is as a comparison. Then there's the Creality K series ones, I know people who've bought these in preference to the Bambu though I think that was on price?

Of course Bambu have dropped their prices too but they undoubtedly stole a march on "easy" out of the box printing.

I know people who've sold up their FDM printers now they have the Bambu.

A lot of people are waiting to see what Bambu does next. The guess is a bigger printing volume model.
