Hi guys, not too much work at present, as in none.
When this happens I like to get into stuff that interests me.
Here we have two projects that have been infesting my frazled brain for a couple of years.
First up, Trilobite. I read the ace nerdy book 'Trilobite' by Richard Fortey and got interested i these long gone critters.
Made of 25x3mm mild steel strip about 80mm long, the ribs are shaped on a fly press with a home made tool, the first time I ever used a flypress, well pleased with the result, not so pleased with the gargantuan headache when I walloped myself on the head. It is a representation of the cast they left when growing. The first in a series of these. Next I have to rust, polish and wax it to give it a good ancient patina. A headache to make in more wys than one, but worth the effort.
Next up, I have been looking at the architecture of sea horses, and liked the series of concave curves, not so sure about the cuteness implied, but hey people like them which should help to sell it. Made in 8mm bar for the frame with the infill cut from 1.6mm mild steel using Bosch GSC 16 shears (bloody fantastic things) each pair of panels took a whole day to make. I a sick of cutting out bloody rectangles of steel. When finished it will stand about 2.6m tall.
So far so good, I have a vague idea of how to make the tail, started on the head today with not a clue how to do it and it seems to be working out ok.
Here we have the original drawing on the workbench.
Luxury to have a bench big enough. I used to have to do this on the floor and redraw it everyday as I walked all over it.
This thing is bugging me terribly, it remeinds me of something I have seen somewhere, and I cant think what, a clip round the ear to the twit at the back who shouts out 'Seahorse' I have an idea 'It' might be something spanish, culd be sculpture. could be a garbage truck.
I will post an update when it is finished.
