New Static Arc MIG welder

Just received today my new Static Arc mig welder. Looks to be pretty well made. Just having alook at what all dials do. manual doesn`t really explain any of it. So going to have to learn what, inductance and burn back are. Only used to older SIP welder with wire speed and amp settings. Apparently this welder can also use spool gun and tig lift torch. Spool gun can be used for aluminium DC with argon gas, so will get spool gun in future and give it ago. If anyone here can explain in laymans terms what inductance and burnback for the weld bead or how to determine settings etc . Would be handy. Also going to use to weld motorcycle frame subframe mounts for seat and a few other things. Any advice on best wire to use ? Thinking .8 but the make is real question SIP, Weldability etc. With CO 2 gas
Going to enjoy learning how to use this welder and seeing what it and I can do. The best thing of all is finally having the ability to get on with my Triumph Trophy project I use as my avatar and I can`t wait to get the old girl back on the road

For steel MIG wire might I suggest Lincoln SupraMIG - made in the UK too.

I was asking the same questions about burn back and inductance this morning as my new welder didn't explain them in the rather sparse manual. I found some info and added this to the manual;

Burn back: The burn back control is used to set how far the wire will burn back once the torch trigger has been released. Setting your machine to 1 and having no burn back means you run the risk of the wire sticking out too far and becoming stuck in the weld. Setting your machine to 10 and having the max burn back means you’re probably going to end up self-inflicting the actual welding problem of burn back. We recommend setting your burn back to 5, or in the middle range, for the best results.

Inductance: Adding inductance to the weld circuit will slow down the rate of current rise. It works by creating a magnetic field which opposes the welding current in the short circuit thereby slowing the rate of rise. If the inductance is increased it will cause an increase in arc time and reduction in the dip frequency, this will help reduce spatter. Depending on the welding parameters there will be an optimum inductance setting for the best welding conditions. If the inductance is too low then there will be excessive spatter. If the inductance is too high the current will not rise high enough and the wire will stab the weld pool with insufficient heat.

I have the yellow version and have been using the flux cored wire, bought from static arc. I find it’s works well but with lots of smoke / fume. I don’t have a triumph trophy…. Sold that last year but still use it as my avatar

I suppose like most welding jobs it`s a case of trying different settings and seeing what they do. Be interesting to try different inductance and burn back. Not had these to adjust before so be a new experience. Waiting for adaptor from 16 amp to 13 amp plug. Keeping blue one on machine just in case do any welding where it`s required. Once get going will upload some pictures of welds etc
