New to forum - Sealey tools

Hi all,

New to the forum, i'm normally computer technology related, however £30 an hour bills from my local garage kind of pushed me to learn abit about the 3 motorcycles i'm sorting out.

Anyway, i would like to enquire about sealey products.

I purchased a 6L 1HP compressor, it was a big mistake. the compressor arrived broken.. the 90 degree bend from the pump onto the pipe that fils the tank had snapped in transit. and i realised it was too small... twas a impulsive buy... silly really! i didn't realize what i needed.

I got a hammer and screwdriver which knocked it out, i extracted the part and found it cheap material.. i was worried.

I took it to machine mart, the idiot behind the counter with less brains than me confirmed that it was an inferior cheap part.

So i purchased a snap-on 24L compressor that is apparently a re-branded fiac (Italian) compressor...

All was well.

I purchased some air tools (SIP) not the best... but paid £30 new from eBay... should have cost a lot more... but i get a lot of deals... wrong category listing etc.

So, now i have these tools... not super i know this! i wanted a starter pack to get me on my way... from what i have found SIP is far better quality than sealey...

Anyway, i know that all moving parts want oil, i could have got an inline oiler for £3 or something along the way... but i really wanted a water trap and lubricator... I've done a super job of it too... used hydraulic fittings as the air fittings leaked.

so, been burned by sealey once like a fool i went back and got the water trap & oiler from them...

I've had nothing but air leaks, from a 24L compressor... you dont get much air... which is good for my T/wrench and other items etc...

So, i wanted to inquire bluntly, are sealey the crap of crap...

I've bean burned by it twice... it seems cheap Chinese sh!te...

Could anyone elaborate...

some sealy stuff is good some is crap, as a general rule of thumb you can buy whatever sealy sell cheeper from another brand.

SIP, seem to have a higer percentage of crap than sealy but cheeper.

as for air compressors, you need one at least five times bigger than what you think and you need to spend five times more on the tools than you hope.

i can do nuts up tighter with a 3/8 ratchet than my 1/2 sip inpact wrench they are cumbersom gutless things. got a littel 3/8 mac jobbie it uses half the air and nice to use it also got a hell of a lot more poke.

all my old sip and sealy air tools are just door stops / shelf ornaments now

Thanks for the feedback, i can see you're point on them been door stops..

As i've a snap-on compressor i was looking at mac snapon... some others too... go for some serious money... still learning.. you know how it is...

24 litre DIY compressor jobbies are only useful for blowing tyres up or getting rid of spiders and cobwebs in yer shed.

I tried mine yesterday sandblasting......lmao.....why do they sell this sh*t? mind you at least I didn't buy the compressor.

I've got an ABAC 24 litre 1.5 HP machine and a Clarke Raider 50, 50 litre tank,3hp and 150 psi.

I also bought the SIP starter set for around £90. It has actually had quite a bit of use, mostly the die grinder. I find the impact wrench worked better on decent hoses ( the orange curly ones are fine when a tool doesn't need air volume, but restrict flow otherwise). Impact wrench is okay, but you need a bigger torque wrench to start or finish wheel nuts off, probably a good thing though as impact guns are a nightmare getting consistent torque settings.

The air ratchet wrench, if somethings really tight it needs you to put the effort in manually first, but it'll make short work of spinning nuts on or off.

Spraying,with a low air consumption gun, the 24 l will handle it fine.

Basically they work as a starter compressor,
but you'll need a lot of patience waiting for it to refill. The largest you'll get onto a 13 amp supply is a 3hp, even these will run out of puff on larger tools, and will be well outpaced by a sandblasting duty.
