New to Me Compressor

Hi Guys, first post and all that. I am new to compressors and wanted some advice really. I have a Sipp TN3 150litre unit but it came with an open end on the end of the receiver tank. The other end has a plug in it. The manual says it should be a quick coupler in there but having looked around I can't see anything that would fit what appear to be a 3/4 or 21mm female hole so any advise on this would be great.

Obviously once its all running I want to get some tools connected and although I don't need top of the line tools for my DIY use I also don't want to waste my moeny on rubbish so if you guys have any thoughts on what I could look for even 2nd hand? I am looking for a whole range of tools so all suggestions welcome.

I have been looking at maybe hard piping it around my garage and have seen people use copper water pipe. My question is - is this ok for 125psi especially when used with compression fittings at the ends?

PS Ant tips on where to buy parts, pipe and couplers etc very much welcome along with what to avoid.

Welcome to the forum. Was the quick release outlet supplied loose? Have a good look through the packaging.

There's loads of threads about plumbing in permanent air piping on here.

Thanks for the welcome. I have had a quick search but mostly people say copper pipe and i wanted o just make sure that its just standard 15 or 22 mm water pipe they are using.

Unfortunatley the open end is just a hole as it is second hand and didnt come with whatever went in there. I downloaded tha manual and it say it should be a quick coupler but I seem to be unable to find one that looks like it will screw into a 21mm threaded hole and not let the air out.

Really??? this is why I needed to ask because for me 24mm is an inch so 20mm is much more than 1/2 inch - it makes no sense to me which is why I think I am finding it confusing on what I need.

1/2BSP to 15mm compression and use loctite 577 on the threads of the bsp end (I found it seals stuff that PTFE doesn't, albeit wrapping an olive with a couple of turns of PTFE can seal most compression joints.

Thanks for this I will get some of the loctite. What would be a rough max pressure for standard copper water pipe when compression connected?

BSP threads aren't the diameter of the thread, but refer to the pipe size (this was back in the good old days). 15mm compression joints have 1/2 BSP threads.

Google for the something like "BSP thread sizes" you should come across a table listing the characteristics of these threads.

Don't use Loctite on compression fittings, the threads are used to squash the olive and hold the joint together, they having nothing to do with the seal. Loctite or PTFE tape can be used where you screw a male thread on a fitting into a female thread on another fitting or the tank. I prefer the tape because you can align joints easier and you need less force to undo a joint. I never use Loctite where threads are in aluminium/mazak for fear of stripping the thread when unscrewing.

Nor is it necessary to wrap tape round an olive. Just make sure everything is clean and the pipe is nice and round where the olive sits.

Thanks for all the help guys thats got it much straighter in my mind.

Any recommendations on what to buy - brand wise for diy workshop - and what to avoid. Oh and also where is best to buy from price wise.
