New to me tip run throw away compressor

Beening thrown in thr tip

Asked and thanked and put in my car so say its seized so a possible few parts to upgrade my older one

Taken apart cover off reset trip switch power on trips

Trys to mover fan on front solid
Use maul grips on the nut on the front of fan little twist and spins nice

Put back together and runs well

But I'm draining the bottem out and water keeps just coming out

And the 2nd question why did it fail in thr first place ?
I'm thinking of replacing my small one with this as it's got a bigger tank but if its going to fail again its not worth it

It looks OK, does the plate have a date or anything that looks like a date on it ?

Lots of water probably means previous owner didn't drain it, the water that's coming out looks clean so the receiver's probably OK.

It looks as if the main problem with it has been neglect and water has got into the motor bearings hence why its siezed. Now its going round, see if you can get a bit of WD40 into the bearings to clean them out and then follow it with a bit of oil. It'll probably go forever then. If it was mine, I 'd strip the motor and clean and lube the bearings properly.

I suspect that if a compressor is left standing long enough it could start to seize.

This has not been my personal experience, but I can imagine that it could happen....

And if it's tripping they might not know what a trip is.

im not sure date wize i dont think its old but i do have a pic some where of the sticker will try find it

yes im assuming it got water but ive never had one that just water keeps coming out one opened it drains every time i fill it up and release the bottem tap it leaves more water
(also ive never come across the type of tap you unscrew it to seal and screw it in to release the air and drain it
there is a brass nut that the drain goes in ive tryed to remove that to see if it helps but its stuck fast and as its working as the moment dont want to carp it up now do we think the brass nut will undo before kanckering the threads and head ?

and yes i dont think it had an easy life but also i dont think it done much work

on the fan and in side the plastic cowl there was what looks like brick dust not loads but come off with a bit of work but im hoping the clean and blow through will sort it but yes i think if i sort out the water problem will wash out the bearing with wd40 and sprary some oil over them

id like this as an idea its got light surface rust over most of the metal but if the bearings are oiled greased could this be the reason ?

im going to say i did not even know there was a reset switch on this compresser i dont even know if there is on my other 2 compressers ive never looked and never had the nead to

if hes not ever drained the tank im sure he prob did not know about the reset switch

but i did press the reset and it did just trip again untill i put the grips on it to release the shaft only then did it run

Looks good. No date on it but at least a batch number. Phone machine mart.

theres a metal palate on the metal storage but im not home at mo so cant gett a pic yet of that

Pressurise it with the drain open.

ok tryed that about 10 times and more still comes out ive now got to tipping it a bit and that seams to help a bit as had a bit out in one go

ive now left it over night with the drain open

i did try to remove the brass plug but it just rounded so its in there unles i drill it out

i seam to be geting less out now so i just dont know will try again tonight only saving grace is all the water is clean so im assuming thats good

Those little compressors seem to pick up and dump more moisture from the air than bigger compressors. Really strange. The little one next door always has water in the lines... our big belt drive one barely picks up any, and very rarely dumps it in the lines. Probably only empty it every 6 months or so.

was a bit supprised as i just clean out my little one and there was quite a lot of water in there but the drain plug is not at the bottem its off center only noticed that just last night to tiped it at the same time and was there lots of water in there drained and left plug out for it to dry out

as said will have to keep more of an eye on it and remember to drain it more offen i have a larger air master 8/50 its not pluged in will cheak that soon as well but think the plug is open on that

Is there not a plug in the END of the reciever? So you could tip it's on its end...

I wouldn't worry about the oil. It's not like it's going to foul the plugs.

No it's fine and yes PTFE is good to seal it again . I fit a connector in mine so by passing the restrictions through the small pipes and pressure gauge.

ok great a quick tip or can i chance leaving it for 30 mins to make sure its drained all ?

and what size fitting would i need to put in the end id like a 90 would be great as sticking out as it is its easy to knock off if was angled a bit better

You can only drain what is in there at the time you open the tap. If you have some pressure in it then close the tap as soon as the water stops coming out

as @Munkul said, every time you run it the compressor pump heats up and as the air goes in to the tank it cools on the inner surface and water condenses out which is why you have the drain valve

If they are used a lot and people don't empty them then it can collect until you can hear the water slopping about inside when you rock them

Opening the end plug just to drain it is overkill
