New to welding - Bristol

Hi all,

Im very new to welding, but very familiar with the process as I must have spent thousands over the years paying welders to restore my foolish rusty purchases!

Ive a 1976 Vw bus, which is fully restored at the moment and a 89 Vw scirocco in mint nick. I just want to learn how to weld as i have some engine tinwear that needs minor repair. Im giving myself until September to learn, when i will drop the engine!

Im sure ill be posting soon as the snap-on 130 i have needs either a new torch or swan neck?

Hi Ben ,I'm 10 miles,further than Bath from you ,also have a 89 scirocco (far from mint.stored in a shed) and a golf cabby gti....if you want some pointers give me a pm, get your welder fixed,bring it with you ,have a play in my garage .....welcome to the forum

Welcome Ben to the forum from Mike in sunny south Bristol in process of restoring/customising FORD Consul Capri (as old as me!!) I enjoy watching the guys on cable tv doing there VW's . Nice for you to have a motor you can get parts for . Did I hear correctly from a work mate that there is a bunch of guys in north Bristol / Yate making new panels for VW buses ?

Mike, I haven't heard about the new panels in yate? Anyway, I'm in briz and wondered where the best place for steel offcuts is, 1 to 2mm for some practice? I travel round the SW for work so anything anywhere would be good to know.
