New to welding - I finally took the plunge.....

.... and bought a Thermal Arc 181i from Rapid Welding near Southampton (thanks Andy Doe). I have been messing around with cars for many years, and have recently moved on to bikes (as they take up less room !!) I did a nut-and-bolt restoration of a BSA Bantam, and I am now on to a 1970 Triumph Bonneville, which does not need too much work.

Welding is a skill that I have never tried to learn before, but I have been reading this forum, on and off, for several years so I decided it was about time. I still need to get a decent metal plate to put on my workbench, and some metal to practice, but apart from that I think that I have all that I need. I signed up to BOC (thanks Jack Parris) and got a 2-litre bottle of Argoshield-lite.

Hi and welcome along, I am sure you you will enjoy learning to weld, there are lots of very helpful members here who can help and lots of bike fans so I am sure you will fit in l

I gave up cars for bikes for the very same reason! Also because there is no panelwork to be fussy about, and if it is not going, you can just pick it up and shift it out of the way!

Like wise my last restoration was a D14B 1969 Bantam. Actually I'm putting it up for sale now.But enjoyed doing it.Tricky bit I had was removing the swinging arm bushes to replace with new.Welcome to the site .
