Just treated myself to one of these:

It's designed to take filtered compressed air at 3 bar, but I've converted it to take the low pressure feed from my Metro heater blower.

Cost about £200 but it's light years ahead of the fabric hoods you can get. It has tear-off visor strips which saves time and it's very comfortable.

Been using this in earnest now.

It's less cumbersome than it looks, there is an inner helmet similar to a bump cap with an adjustable suspension and the outer helmet is fixed to it.

There's an inner visor (about £2.00 to replace) held in place by a rubber extrusion like old fashioned motor car windscreens. The hinged door holds an outer visor which is either a set of tear-off visors or a single piece of polycarbonate.

If you use the single outer visor it's possible to slide a peice cut from a pop bottle in front of it.

Inside there is an elasticated collar which keeps grit & dust out.

The tabard is fixed to the helmet with a pair of very strong spring cords.

The regulator supplied isn't a regulator as we know it Jim, it's a flow control. I've dispensed with this and use a blower to feed air into the helmet. There's a pressure gauge and audible low-pressure warning fitted to the "reg."

Yes, 3 litre coke bottles are exactly the right size.
